Great reasons to join West Wilts Golf Club

1. We are well established

Our club has been here a long time, since 1891 in fact, and we are proud to be associated with it and to be continuing its development and growth. We have a thriving and healthy membership but are always ready to welcome new players of all standards and ages and welcome enquiries for all membership options, be that with full playing rights or as a social member.

2. It’s all about the members

Our club is known for its friendly, informal and unstuffy environment. The club is owned by us, its members; we have no shareholders, owner or management company to cream-off profits or dividends and all our costs are beneficial to the membership and the well-being and development of the club. Members come first – visitors and societies are welcome but we don’t let them clog the course on busy club days.

3. More than just golf

Members’ benefits include discounted bar prices, a restaurant serving a wide-range of menu options, a fully equipped PGA Pro shop (with a very capable teaching and playing Pro in Jonathan Lawrence), a tremendous course with good greens, fantastic fairways (once compared with those at Augusta) and the best views in Wiltshire. Social events including dinners, dances, quiz nights, restaurant specials are organised throughout the year

4. We keep investing to improve our facilities

We are constantly investing to improve the course and clubhouse. Our facilities are comprehensive, the course, which plays to par 69 off the white tees, par 69 off the yellow and 72 off the red tees, is 5792 yds long. We have a 200 yd long practice area with bunkers, two target greens, a two-net warm-up bay and an indoor practice room equipped with a GC2 simulator (as seen on Sky Sports) for teaching, practice and fun (when it's cold and wet!).

5. We welcome new members

As a new member you can be assured of a warm welcome to the playing community with a wide-range of roll-ups for social golf and teams for competitive/representative golf at all standards for men, ladies and seniors. There is no joining fee and all new members are ‘managed’ and supported by the club during their initial period of membership to ensure the widest possible participation in club life from Day 1.

6. Play when you want

Our playing conditions can be summarised as follows:
  • Excellent playing surfaces throughout the year. We are normally only ever closed for snow. Last winter we kept our greens open throughout.
  • 2 starting tees; the 1st and 11th.
  • No booking of tee times, except for matches, competitions and society visits.
  • Muddy shoes are unheard of at West Wilts and we have one of the driest underfoot courses in the country.
  • Wind is our greatest challenge - and the course's best protection.
  • Pace of play is generally very good, typically 3½ hours for a 3 or 4-ball. Even competitive medal rounds are usually sub-4 hours.

7. Joining in is easy

Whether you want to play recreational, competitive, mixed or fun golf as an adult, senior or junior there is always something to keep you occupied:
  • We have a very busy competitive programme for both individuals and teams.
  • Our “Wagglers” (Gents friendly team) have a very busy schedule of matches both mid-week and weekends, home and away, with clubs up to 25 miles away.
  • You are able to join at any time during the year on a pro-rata basis.
